What Is The Hash?

The HHH are simply a social running club. We meet every week, go out for a run and have a few drinks afterwards. Each week one of the hashers (the hare) sets a course by leaving small heaps of flour on the road or path. In Almaty we have once course for those who wish to run, and one for this who wish to walk.

The course can by anywhere in the city or countryside around Almaty, and usually lsts for around 40 minutes. There are a number of false trails to send you in the wrong direction, and the run is strictly uncompetetive. Those who try to race are severely punished! With beer.

The "down-downs" occur after the run, as they are part of Hash tradition. All beer and/or water are included in the admission price per run (until it runs out).

The Hash started in Malaysia in 1938, but is now a world-wide body, with a Hash in nearly every major town or city in the world, as well as in a few places you would never expect one.

The Tien Shan Hash House Harriers have been established in 1995, and have been running every week, year-round, regardless of weather, continuously since 2001.

If you want to get out and about on Sunday afternoons and don't mind combining a nice run or walk with a few beers and some fun, come along.

Wear something you can run in-- avoid color-coordinated outfits or anything that looks too nice and that you wouldn't want to get muddy and beer-soaked!
